Oat Mylk

Oat mylk

Nutritious, quick, easy and cheap to make, what’s not to love about homemade Oat mylk.

You can make this creamy mylk in no time at all with only 3 ingredients and one of those being water!

As many will know we just love making everything from scratch in the Feeling Wholesome pantry.

At the moment we are enjoying fresh Oat mylk with a big bowl of steaming porridge for breakfast as the weather gets chilly in the mornings. Topped with banana, passionfruit, blueberries with a sprinkle of pumpkin seeds, it is a perfect start to the day.

We also use this Oat mylk on our homemade muesli as well as in smoothies, another versatile mylk that can be enjoyed any time, even on its own. The best part is knowing you made it yourself sprinkled with love without any packaging, preservative, thickeners, additives or long shelf dates.

Nurturing for the soul and nurturing for your body.

(Did you know, the spelling of Mylk is now more popularly used as a description for non dairy milk)

Oak mylk

You will need:

A blender

1 litre of filtered water

1 cup of steel cut or rolled organic oats (not quick oats)

Pinch of cinnamon

Pinch of salt (optional)

A nut bag of tightly woven muslin cloth

Method

Place 1 litre of water in a blender, add the oats, cinnamon and salt if using.

Blend on high speed for just 30 seconds.

Pour the mylk through the nut bag or muslin cloth discarding the oats left in the bag

We like to strain it twice for a nice smooth taste.

Pour the mylk into a sealable glass bottle and keep in the fridge for up to 3 days.

Give the mylk a good stir before using it and enjoy.

Benefits of oat mylk

Oat mylk is free from many allergens which can be found in other types of milk, such as dairy or nut mylk.

Oat mylk contains beta glucans which is a soluble fibre which may offer benefits for heart health.

Home-made oat mylk is one of the cheapest mylks to make compared to nut mylks or seed mylks.
