- Fresh turmeric is a potent powerhouse with an abundance of anti inflammatory properties.
This beautiful yellow spice has been used in India for thousands of years as a staple in curries and food preparations, as well as for a vast range of medicinal benefits. The key active ingredient is curcumin.
- Freshly ground black pepper is often used with turmeric.
Black pepper contains piperine a natural substance that supports absorption of the active ingredient within turmeric into the body.
- Ginger, widely used for its medicinal benefits and as an anti inflammatory, antibacterial and anti viral properties and as a staple in cooking.
- Apples, fresh juicy apples, we love them every day, contain anti inflammatory properties, vitamins and dietary fibre.
This simple healthy shot is so easy and quick to make!
Ingredients and equipment you will need.
- 6 to 8cm’s of fresh turmeric
- 3 to 5cm’s of fresh ginger
- 4 medium apples
- A Juicer – we use a slow pressed juicer.
- Glass bottles – we use small 200 ml bottles.
Method:
Juice the turmeric, ginger and apples and taste. For a stronger, more fiery shot add more ginger, or add more apple to be less fiery.
I personally love a stronger shot of ginger to wake me up!
Store the juice in the fridge until ready to use.
When ready to use, pour a small amount in a shot size glass and add a small grind of black pepper to assist with the absorption and enjoy.
You can adjust the quantity to make more or less, we like to make enough for 3 days to ensure the juice is fresh.
The ingredients above typically makes around 500 ml of fresh juice though will depend on the size of the apples and freshness of the ingredients.
We have ours first thing in the morning with breakfast to start the day for a healthy dose of nutritious goodness.
Notes:
Turmeric can stain the juicer and the glass bottles yellow.
A tip is to leave the rinsed bottles and juice jug out in the sun if they do stain, the suns rays will remove the staining.
